Why come to Rattan and Riempie for restoration?

When marketing a small operation like mine two questions always comes mind. Part 1.

1) So many big businesses; why would they choose me to restore their furniture?

2) What can I offer that others can’t?

Lets start with why would they choose me to restore their furniture? It is a bit of a lengthy article but here goes:

That beloved cane rocking chair in the corner where you held your first child, or grand child; the sturdy riempie bench (maybe you courted your first love on it) – your furniture holds stories, memories, and a unique charm that mass-produced items simply cannot replicate. But time takes its toll. Rattan frays, riempie sags, and the once vibrant character can fade.

This is where Rattan and Riempie steps in, not just as a repair service, but as a restorer of memories and a champion of enduring quality. You can bring your cherished pieces to us with complete confidence, knowing they are in the hands of passionate experts dedicated to breathing new life into them.

Our Dedication is Evident:

Part 2: What can I offer that others can’t?

Personal service – you don’t talk to a sales person who considers it only a job. You speak to me personally. Having a happy customer is my main concern. Yes, there has been mishaps and unhappy customers. You get customers with unrealistic expectations. You get customers who are simply impossible to please. And those who expect that since you are a small operation you must be willing to work under the profit margin just to get something in… But that is part of the business world right?

So, what can Rattan and riempie offer that others don’t? I still do handwoven rattan. Most restorers shy away from it because it is an exhausting, labour intensive job using very expensive materials. But yes I still do handweaving and I will continue to do it as long as people ask for it.

And that, I believe, is one thing that sets Rattan and riempie apart from others. See the attached picture. The bench is on exhibition at the Voortrekker monument. It is handwoven Rattan. I restored this last year (2024) end of July.
