One important note is to NEVER EVER soak white riempies in water. You will be left with a poor quality leather strip that will crack and break. Water removes the preservative in the riempie, that keeps it soft and pliable. So, despite what you may read in a UK Facebook/website post – DO NOT SOAK YOUR WHITE RIEMPIES.
Fit it dry, pull tight and fix with a nail. And that is all there is to it.

What to soak: raw riempies. A raw riempie is unusable and when dry. As you soak the raw riempie, it becomes soft and pliable again. But now, the other catch – unlike white riempie you will never pull a raw riempie tight on a frame. If you do; well, goodbye frame. It shrinks/tightens up as it dries and tomorrow morning you have a cracked/broken seat.
